Grouchy Woman on Running

Help sponsor the 101 year-old marathoner!

It's not too late to sponsor Buster Martin, the 101 year old marathoner!  I blogged about him a while ago (and donated a few bucks).    He's running the London Marathon on Sunday, April 13.  What the heck -- it's tax deductible and goes to a good cause, and the guy's an inspiration.  Show him some love!  http://www.justgiving.com/bustermartin1

No, I don't know the guy.  I just think he's really cool.

101-year-old to run the London Marathon

I want to be this guy when I'm 101 (although I don't plan to take up cigarettes, and I want to remain a woman).  Marathon hopeful, 101-year-old , training hard:

Already Britain's oldest employee, 101-year-old Buster Martin now aims to become the world's oldest marathon runner by completing the London Marathon and celebrating with a pint of beer and a cigarette.

Sprightly and bearded, he completed a half marathon at the weekend in five hours 13 minutes. The former Army physical training instructor works three days a week for a London plumbing firm and says he has trained for the April 13th race in his spare time.

Isn't that great?  He looks pretty awesome for 101.  However, this article leaves out so many details, at least from the runner's point of view.  I want to hear more about his training program!  What's his longest run to date? How long has he been running?

I'll post further details if I can find them.  In the meantime, if anyone finds anything else on this guy, please let me know.

EDITED TO ADD:  I just found his fundraising page (he's running the marathon for charity).  I may send him a few bucks.  http://www.justgiving.com/bustermartin1

Also, here's a Wikipedia page.  I'm telling you, the guy is cool.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buster_Martin

I am New York

CentralparkAs I trotted home from my run today, I ran into four tourists doing the usual tourist thing -- three of them were posed while the fourth aimed his camera at them. I stopped so that I wouldn't run into their picture. The guy with the camera looked at me and then gestured with the camera, and started to ask "Would you . . .?". Of course I thought that he wanted me to take a picture of all of them, and reached out for the camera. He said "No, no, no, I want you to pose with them. I want you to be IN the picture. " I asked, "Um, why?" He said "Because you are New York". Of course, after that I had no choice, so four nice people from Israel will be going home with me in their photo album. Before we went our separate ways, the guy with the camera gave me his card and invited me to visit them in Israel. Poor guy doesn't realize that he's in serious danger of my taking him up on it.
